Fiona Fly

Waila’s Family

Within the woods, we also meet Waila’s family. Unlike Waila, they live tucked within the trees and off the trail where Hikers can’t stomp through their webs. Safely hidden away, they have lots of fun and eat all the little insects they can catch. They don’t understand why Waila would want to work so hard spinning a web across a trail just to have it torn down by passing hikers.

Waila’s Neighbors

Insects and Spiders aren’t the only ones living in the woods. Among the trees, live a great variety of animals, including a Robin and a Squirrel who live alongside Waila’s family. They keep to themselves mostly but can’t help watching when hikers come stomping up the trail.

Hikers

Hikers don’t live in the woods but gather from all over with their walking sticks and big, clunking boots. Keeping to the trail, they stomp along, crushing everything that doesn’t clear the path. Their heavy, lumbering boot are the last thing a spider sees right before their web is trampled over.

Waila

The protagonist of Waila on the Hiking Trail, Waila is a spider who spins her web across a busy hiking trail where lines of hikers come to stomp through it every day. Some say she’s brave. Some say she’s just plane crazy! But no one would deny that Waila is a determined little spider who won’t stop just because a hiker stomped on her work.
