Website Is Live!

It’s finally up! Holy bananas. This took a silly amount of time.

So, this is my author website, where I’ll keep information on all the books I write. There’s only one book right now, but now I’m ready, when I have more. That’s why it’s called “Jessica Page Dawson” and not “Waila on the Hiking Trail.”

I wrote this book for my graphic design thesis and it was at my professor’s suggestion that I design it this way. On the last day of the semester, he told me that I needed to look ahead and keep writing books. One book is fine, sure, but if Stephen King had stopped at that noone would’ve found him (probably). You just keep working on the next thing. That’s how you get notoriety, he’d said with a wince. The wince was because he knew I was going to have a time and a half trying to get this book out there and he was trying to put it gently.

My mentor, Smile, told me that all I needed was a landing page. I still think that’s good advice and very modern but I’ve never been very good at minimalism. So, here I am with a 5-page website for a single, 900-word children’s book. “You could just make it one long, scrolling page,” said my coworker, Ryan, who designs websites for a living. “Yeah,” I said, like I’d said to Smile. “That’s a good idea.” That minimalism though.

And so, here’s my 5-page website for the only book I’ve written yet and all the others to come. I’m blogging about it now because I need a reason for people to sign up for the mailing list while waiting for my next book release. Also, the “featured posts” blocks fill the homepage nicely.
